Waiting for a Sandwich

Waiting for a Sandwich
5x7 inches
acrylic on gessobord panel

This piece is now back from exhibit and ready for sale!

It's been a crazy week trying to get back into things after Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful trip out to Ohio to visit family, but alas, no painting got done. I am working on a commission this week - hope to post it tomorrow. It feels great to pick up a brush again after almost a whole week off!

Shadows on Stripes

Shadows on Stripes
5x5 inches
acrylic on gessobord panel

Now available for purchase!
Is it safe to say I have a thing for tomatoes? And for shadows?
Now I think I am getting addicted to stripes......
Can't wait until I have a chance to set up some still lifes with the vintage wall paper I recently acquired.

Morning Chat

Morning Chat
5x7 inches
acrylic on gessobord panel

Another one now available for purchase.
What is it that makes the morning light so magical?
I love the color of the morning light and the shadows it creates. The light seems so intense, and the differences between the lights and darks so distinct. I am enjoying trying to capture it while it lasts....
Morning Chat - $75 + $4.95 shipping and handling in the US

Holly Holiday - SOLD

Holly Holiday
3.5 x 2.5 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper
SOLD

It felt so good to paint again today after have the last few days off for the show (and more days for show prep!). I actually had very little time with the brushes today, so I was glad to be able to finish this. Lots of fun to try to capture the shine and the sharp edges of the leaves.
I'm getting ready to take a trip home with the kids for Thanksgiving.....so it will be another quiet week on my blog. I'm going to take my little paint box on the road with me, but between the kids and visiting family, I suspect I won't get much done. I usually come home with lots of ideas for more road trip paintings though....so we will see  ;-)

The Evil Nutcracker - SOLD

Evil Nutcracker
3x3 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

This mischievous little guy was one of the many paintings sold this weekend at the Sleigh Bell Artisan Fair at the Wenham Museum. The show was a big step for me outside of my comfort zone, but it ended up being a great experience. The people were super nice, the sales were decent, and I made a few great contacts and some new friends  ;-)
Thanks to all who stopped by!

Congenial - SOLD

Congenial
Relationships Series
6x4 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper
SOLD

One last one for the show this weekend - and probably the last one for this week as well! I hope to get a little painting done in the evenings, but I can not believe all the framing and labeling, etc. I have to do before setup on Thursday. The show is at the Wenham Museum in Wenham, Massachusetts. It runs Friday and Saturday, November 18th and 19th 10-4 and Sunday, November 20th 12-4. There is also a big fancy party for museum members and donors on Friday night. I've got a big pile of work to take...so come visit if you are local!!

Nervous Introduction SOLD

Nervous Introduction
Relationships Series
6x4 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper
SOLD

A new one for my Relationships Series. I got a special request to make sure I had some new ones from this series for the show next weekend. I'm going to try to get a few done over the next few days while in the middle of all of this matting, framing, labeling, and general getting things together for the show....I'm getting very nervous about getting it all done!

Ornamental

Ornamental
5x7 inches
acrylic on gessobord panel

One last one to enter in a juried small works exhibition at a (fairly) local gallery This is the first time I've tried to enter a show like this, so we will see how it goes! Because of the timing, the pieces I enter to be juried will not be able to go to the Artisan Fair at the Wenham Museum next weekend. Being a three day fair, I am concerned about how much work I should have. There are a few little pieces I want to try to get done this weekend and then I will need to re-access on Monday as I pull out all of my work to decide what work I am going to take and what needs to be framed, etc. Eeeeek!

Golden Glow - SOLD

Golden Glow
4.5 x 3 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper
SOLD

I wanted to paint this beautiful pear and try to capture all its many colors. It's hard to believe just how many colors there are on a simple piece of fruit! Unfortunately I don't think that this scan quite shows all of the colors in the painting.

This little one will be for the Sleigh Bell Artisan Show at the Wenham Museum next week. I have the perfect frame for it - the last of my White Elephant Shop frames. Time to go second-hand store hunting again.......

Waiting for a Sandwich......

Waiting for a Sandwich
5x7 inches
acrylic on gessobord panel
available at MiXtMedia Gallery

Tired of tomatoes yet? I had to do yet another one.....the light and shadows are just too much fun!

I am pleased that I sold a painting at the Wine and Art for Veasey Park event Saturday night. Even though I was unable to attend, I heard they had a decent-sized crowd. They've already invited me for next year...hopefully I will be able to go to the reception then!

Besides the three day artisan fair coming up (quickly!) at the Wenham Museum, I also have the opportunity to submit some pieces to a local juried small works show. I am going to see how much painting I can get done this week, and then decide at the end of the week what I have that I want to submit, while still having plenty of work for the show at the Museum. I've never done a three day event like this before, so I really don't know what to expect! Time to get painting......

Happy (late) Halloween!

Due to the October snowstorm we had last weekend, Halloween was officially postponed until tonight. The kids are happily trick-or-treating at last!

So I thought it would be okay to post one more pumpkin - a jack o'lantern for Carol Marine's "Paint Your Pumpkin" challenge at DailyPaintworks.

Boy Pumpkin
4x4 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

My kids all carved their own pumpkins this year (those tiny little carving tools that come in the kits at the grocery store are AWESOME for kids to carve their own!). For the first time, they all chose to go with a pretty standard jack o'lantern face (three triangles, plus a mouth). The funny thing is that I think this one actually resembles my older son who carved it! I knew right away that it was his.....something about the smile actually looks just like him.....

Shadows and Reflections

Shadows and Reflections
6x6 inches
acrylic on gessobord panel

This is the last one I am going to get done for the event this weekend. I couldn't resist the bulls-eye reflection in the silver bowl and all the strong shadow shapes - I had to give this set up a try.

I've been framing the other pieces today and plan to deliver them all tomorrow. For any locals, the event is the Wine and Art Reception at Veasey Memorial Park in Groveland, Massachusetts. It is Saturday, November 5th from 5 to 8 pm. Tickets are available here or at the door. Should be a fun night!

Pulling Together

Lean on Me
6x4 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper
SOLD

It is amazing what a little bad weather will do....I live in a tiny New England town - we didn't get as much snow this past weekend that some areas did, however it was enough to knock out power to 3/4 of the town. The town center had power, so the schools were open, people generously carpooling where the buses couldn't run or people couldn't get their cars out.

The line for hot coffee at the general store went out the door, yet everyone was friendly - sharing storm stories, rumors of where you might be able to take a shower and sitings of the power company workers.

I went to the library to check my email. Our town library is very small - in an old house - and usually quite quiet. It does have wi-fi and therefore every available surface, chair and even floor space was covered by people working on their laptops. People who generally work in the solitude of their homes were now working elbow to elbow with their neighbors - and people seemed genuinely happy about it. I was amazed by all the kindness and consideration I saw, despite the cold and tiredness and frustration we all felt.

We had three neighbors help us take the tree off our garage - neighbors we knew, however they didn't all know each other. New friendships were formed among them as they moved on to help someone else once our tree was cleared.

Amazing how a freak snowstorm can renew your faith in the kindness of others.......
