What I've Been Painting on Lately......

Okay - this is a new one for me....

Ready?

An apron!

The wonderful folks at the Newburyport Art Association asked me if I would paint an apron for the upcoming Artful Feast Auction. I said "sure" - thinking it would be a fun little project, maybe something a little different.

They sent me off with an apron and a recommendation for a kind of fabric paint. I thought using fabric paint would be a lot like painting in acrylic, but boy, was I wrong! It was a bit of a struggle - and a steep learning curve. And man, you can not make any mistakes because there is no covering anything up. But once I got into it, it was kind of fun (well except for the one evening I was working on it when I was really tired - I was sure I was going to start to fall asleep and I would drop my paint brush and make a stray mark on the apron!)

But I got it done, and heat set it, and dropped it off at the Newburyport Art Association. It will be part of the silent auction for the Artful Feast on Saturday, June 8, 2013. More details are available here. I will also have another small painting in the silent auction so I hope you can check it out if you are in the area.

Now I seem to have a little bit of fabric paint left. I am considering maybe hand painting some market totes. Any interest out there?

Enduring - Original Acrylic Seascape Landscape

Enduring
7 x 5 inches
acrylic on cradled board

Another seascape for the Keeping Equilibrium show at MixtMedia Gallery in Ipswich, Massachusetts.
We actually went to the beach today...cold and windy for this time of year, but the surf was amazing.

I hope everyone has a lovely Memorial Day weekend!

Calming - Small Landscape Painting, Original Seascape

Calming
7 x 5 inches
acrylic on cradled board

Tonight I am wiring the whole group of these seascapes...getting ready to take them to MixtMedia Gallery in Ipswich, Massachusetts tomorrow. Hopefully I can take a picture of how the whole grouping would look hung together - I want to hang them in a grid, so the whole grouping makes a visual impact as a group, as well as each separate little painting.

Persistence - Acrylic Landscape Painting, Ocean Seascape

Persistence
7 x 5 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

After a crazy busy week and weekend, I am still playing catch-up. I am currently finishing up a  bunch of these seascapes for the "Keeping Equilibrium" show at MixtMedia Gallery. They are proving very meditative to work on!

Summer Siesta - Small Landscape Painting ACEO of Stiles Pond SOLD

Summer Siesta (Stiles Pond)
3-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper
SOLD

Another favorite Boxford, Massachusetts location..... Stiles Pond! Come summer, you will find most your neighbors (and ALL the kids) hanging out at "the pond". Surrounded by woodlands, it is a beautiful, spring-fed body of water with a small beach, canoes & kayaks, lots of frogs and fish - and a place to buy Italian ice. What more could the kids want on a hot summer day?!

This piece sold during the anniversary celebration at West Village Provisions. I have had a request for more Stiles pieces, so they will be coming in the weeks ahead.....

Another ACEO painting making its debut tomorrow at West Village Provisions. Stop by between 9-11 to see me, or come by any time during the day to help celebrate the current owners 2nd anniversary at the shop. It should be a fun day.....

(And, yes, I am slightly obsessed with Benson's. Or is it just that my kids keep wanting to go there to help me do "research"?!)

Summer Treat (Benson's) - Small Landscape Painting, Building Cityscape ACEO SOLD

Summer Treat (Benson's)
3-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

Sneaking in a few little ACEO paintings of some local (Boxford, Massachusetts) scenes between my beach paintings. On Friday, one of my favorite local places (and one of the places I regularly show my work) will be celebrating its second anniversary under new ownership. Stop by West Village Provisions in West Boxford, Massachusetts and help them celebrate! I will be there from 9 to 11 with a few new paintings of local scenes - I may even bring  my paints and work outside on the deck if the weather is nice.....
