Moving On - Acrylic Still Life Painting of a Classic Game by Debbie Shirley

Moving On
8 x 8 inches
acrylic on cradled panel

I actually finished this piece quite a while back. However, there were a few things on it that really bugged me, so this weekend, I went into it and made the changes and am now revarnishing it. I don;t very often go back into a piece after a while has passed, but I am glad that I did with this one!

It is available in my Etsy shop.

Joe - Small Still Life Painting from a Classic Board Game

Joe
3 x 3 inches
acrylic on 1/2" MDF block

A smaller, squarer version of the "Cowboy Joe" painting from a few days back. This one is part of my Fun-a-Day project where I am painting a 3x3" painting of a classic toy or game. Cowboy Joe is a piece from the old Chutes and Ladders game. I borrowed a couple of vintage board games from a friend - the graphics on the ones from the 60's-70's are far better than the modern version!

Home - Small Acrylic Painting of Classic Board Game Original ACEO

Home
3-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

I've always loved the game "Sorry!" for some reason - and I still get a kick out of playing it with my kids. Maybe it is just being able to say "Sorry!" with a smile as I send them back to start over.....

(By the way - I loved the suggestion of Clue. Hopefully you will see some paintings of that game in the future.)

Playing with some new compositions using little ACEO-sized pieces of watercolor paper. I'm considering hitting some flea markets or yard sale to find some "new" vintage games to work with. Anybody have some favorite games to suggest that I should check out?

Mai Tai - Acrylic Painting of Kowloon Sign by Debbie Shirley

Mai Tai
8 x 6 inches
acrylic on cradled panel

Getting back to doing some of the signs on small panels for local shops. This one is available at Zenobia in Ipswich, Massachusetts.

I am using some of my "postcard" paintings from my Fun-A-Day project for ideas. I will probably be re-working some of these, changing compositions slightly and cropping differently as I eventually make my way to some larger paintings of these signs.

Joes - Small Postcard Painting at Salisbury Beach by Debbie Shirley

"Wish You Were Here"
Joes
Salisbury Beach, Massachusetts
6 x 4 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

The clown was too much fun to resist.....and the building has such a dated quality with the primary colored panels. I assume they are covering windows? I may have to do a little research to see if I can find old pictures of the building to see if it always looked that way. I was just down at Salisbury Beach last week for a show and took more pictures, so hopefully more paintings from there soon!

The Fun-A-Day Boston exhibit where these paintings were shown is now over. I should have them back int he studio soon and they will be available for sale.

Over and Over Again - Small Still Life Painting of Vintage Game Board

Over and Over Again
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

It's time for a little Parcheesi! I still like that game. Unfortunately it is not a favorite with my kids. I love the game board though. It makes me feel a tad Mondrian-ish.

This piece will be heading to MixtMedia Gallery in Ipswich, Massachusetts for their "Spaces and Edges" show.

And a little teaser....this is the first painting that I completed in my new studio space! More information to come.....

Sugar Rush - Small Acrylic Painting Classic Game Still Life

"Sugar Rush"
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Candy Land! I remember loving it as a kid. Funny how it wasn't quite as much fun playing it with  my kids  ;-) Maybe it is because of the way little children just want to play the same game over and over again.....

This is from a vintage game board - circa maybe early 70's? It is just how I remember it, but different from the game today. The graphics on the modern game aren't nearly as wonderful. And can you believe they renamed "Molasses Swamp" to "Chocolate Swamp"?!!

This painting, along with the last five vintage and classic game and toy paintings will be going to Pop Gallery in Gloucester, Massachusetts tomorrow. Be sure to stop by if you are in the area!

Stepping Out - Small Acrylic Painting Still Life of Vintage Board Game

Stepping Out
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Back to Monopoly. I really like painting the shoe token, but I guess I will have to give some of the others a try as well. Maybe the iron next?

Painting fast and furious this week - some deadlines got moved up and I will have to do my best to roll with it. I hope to share some new and exciting studio news soon as well....stay tuned!

Heading Home - Acrylic Still Life Painting of Vintage Game

Heading Home
8 x 8 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled board

Does anyone recognize this game? It was one of my favorites when I was a kid.

This will be the last 8 x 8 for this first grouping - just a few more smaller ones and hopefully these will be ready to send to Pop Gallery in about a week!

I will be picking this series back up again for a second grouping in a month or so. In the meanwhile, I will be on the look out for more vintage games....
