Heading Home - Acrylic Still Life Painting of Vintage Game

Heading Home
8 x 8 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled board

Does anyone recognize this game? It was one of my favorites when I was a kid.

This will be the last 8 x 8 for this first grouping - just a few more smaller ones and hopefully these will be ready to send to Pop Gallery in about a week!

I will be picking this series back up again for a second grouping in a month or so. In the meanwhile, I will be on the look out for more vintage games....

Moving On - Acrylic Still Life Painting of Vintage Game

Moving On
8 x 8 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled board

Recognize this game?
I've always liked Parcheesi! And painting this old-style game board certainly gave me a new appreciation for the type of color field painting artists like Mondrian created. I painted each of those flat areas of color over at least a half dozen times. It is amazing how just the slightest change in hue can make such a big difference! It was hard to find the right colors.

This painting will be part of my vintage games & toys series heading to Pop Gallery in Gloucester early next month.

Howdy! - Small Acrylic Still Life Painting with a Potato Head

Howdy!
7 x 5 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Can you tell I had fun with this one?
He made me giggle while I was painting him.

For an upcoming exhibition......

High Cost of Living - Still Life with Classic Games

High Cost of Living
12 x 12 inches
acrylic on canvas

This is one of the paintings I have been working on lately. I am doing a little series of "Games We Have Played" with vintage and classic games and toys. And yes, the game is an older edition of Monopoly, where the house and hotels are actually made out of wood! This piece was kind of a warm up, and is a little larger than the pieces I am doing for one of my galleries. I will be entering this painting in a local juried show, so wish me luck!

Paired Up - Small Painting Kitchen Still Life for #twitterartexhibit

Paired Up
4 x 6 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

Yes, I took a week off from blogging!
After actually managing to post my Fun-A-Day paintings every day in January (and also posted them in the 30 Day Painting Challenge, and on Daily Paintworks, and on the Fun-A-Day Facebook group, I really needed a break from all that posing!
I have been painting though.....

The piece above is a postcard-size painting on watercolor paper for the #twitterartexhibit in Orlando. This is a quote directly from their website:

"Through art we can change the world."
#TwitterArtExhibit utilizes social media and public engagement to generate income for charities and nonprofit organizations. In the past, #TwitterArtExhibit has generated funds for a library suffering from deep funding cuts to purchase much-needed children’s books, for an abused women’s shelter seeking to improve the lives of the families they serve, and for an arts organization mentoring underprivileged young adults in preparation for careers in the visual arts.

This year, the exhibit is being curated by amazing artist Robin Maria Pedrero and will benefit The Center for Contemporary Dance, Special Needs Classes. I am excited to donate my art to this wonderful exhibit for a very worthy cause!

Pepper Sauce - 6x6 Still Life Painting, Kitchen Art, Small Acrylic Painting

Pepper Sauce
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on canvas

This is a commission from a friend who liked the 3 x 3 painting I did of the Tabasco bottle as part of my Fun-A-Day project. It was interesting to paint 6 x 6 after so many 3 x 3's!

Please contact me if you are interested in your own custom painting inspired by on of my Fun-A-Day pieces....

Having a Ball - Small Still Life Painting Kitchen Art Fun-A-Day Project

Having a Ball
3 x 3 inches
acrylic on canvas

This is # 31 -  the last official piece for my Fun-A-Day Project of 3 x 3 paintings of things from my kitchen - and yes, it has certainly been a lot of fun!

It has also been a challenge -  to make sure I came up with a new set up (sometimes just trying to look at the same things in a different way), finish a painting each day, and then actually scan and post each one, each day. I am still varnishing and putting on hooks so they will be ready to hang. I look forward to seeing how they will all look together. And I hope to continue with more.....

Slide Over - Small Still Life Painting, Kitchen Art Fun-A-Day Project

Slide Over
3 x 3 inches
acrylic on canvas

Well, I'm down to the last two Fun-A-Day paintings. This has been a very rewarding project! I plan to continue it in some capacity. And some of my favorites are going to be done in larger sizes due to popular demand  ;-)

The Fun-A-Day Boston show will be at Voltage Coffee & Art in Kendall Square (Cambridge, Massachusetts) from February 17th through April 5th, with an opening reception on Friday February 21st, 7-9pm. There are some wonderfully creative people involved - I can't wait to see all the projects!

Sweet Orange - Small Painting, Still Life Kitchen Art Fun-A-Day Project

"Sweet Orange"
3 x 3 inches
acrylic on canvas

Hard to believe that February is here! I have a feeling that this year may just fly by......

This is number 29 of my Fun-A-Day Project. Two more to post!

The bright yellow bowl is a favorite of mine - not vintage though, but a great color.
I wanted to challenge myself a little with this one. I find yellows really difficult to paint, so I made this set-up all about the yellows. I have to admit I am not totally thrilled with this one, I may need to give it another try at a later date.

First Quarter - Small Still Life Painting, Vintage Kitchen Fun-A-Day Project

First Quarter
3 x 3 inches
acrylic on canvas

Hoping to get the rest of the Fun-A-Day Paintings posted this weekend? I guess we will see - it never seems to work out as planned  ;-)

This is number 28 (more Fiestaware!).....3 more to go!

And here is my collage for the 30 Day Painting Challenge. Yes, this shows only 25 - I can't figure out how to make it show all 30! Does anyone know how to make collages in Picmonkey?
