Rushing In - Mini Beach Painting Small Seascape Painting

Rushing In
4 x 3 inches
acrylic on 3/8" canvas

A tiny little seascape!

Actually I did a whole bunch of these:

for the Spring into Summer fundraiser. It seems kinda silly to post each one individually here on the blog, so I think I will get them added - well, at least the ones that are left! -  to my DailyPaintworks gallery (and eventually to my Etsy shop) so that if you are interested in individual ones, you can see them there.

Day 29 - Small Still Life with Candy

Colorful Collection
3 x 4 inches
acrylic on 3/8" canvas

One more little candy painting for Positive Images Gallery! Colorful jellybeans = cheerful painting, right?!

Can't believe it is already Day 29 of the 30 Day Painting Challenge. Thanks to Leslie Saeta for "hosting" - and coming up with the great idea. Lots of artists taking part this time around....and I am pleased that I was able to keep up! I did miss posting one day, but on another day I posted two paintings, so as long as I finish a painting tomorrow, I will indeed  have completed 30 paintings in 30 days. Yay!

For October.....well, I do hope to keep up the pace! I don't know if I will be as motivated to actually post each day, but we will see. And I want to get back to my "Inspiration Mondays" and "Work in Progress Wednesdays". I have a lot of painting to do this month - while I don't have any shows until November, I do have a whole bunch of gallery deadlines, a couple of commissions, and (as if I could forget!)  the holidays are coming up, too.....

Day 28 - Sugar Rush Small Candy Still Life Painting

Sugar Rush
4 x 3 inches
acrylic on 3/8" canvas

Thinking bright and colorful - and fun! More candy paintings, this time jellybeans on a little canvas.

This painting, along with the other candy paintings  (as well as some of my other works) will now be available at my newest venue: Positive Images Gallery on Wingate Street in Haverhill.
I'm excited to be a part of this great shop - a fun little gift gallery with local art and photos as well as some unique free trade gift ideas - and the best card collection around.
Be sure to check it out next time you visit Haverhill!

Day 1 Rolling In - Small Beach Landscape

Rolling In
4 x 3 inches
acrylic on 1/2" canvas

Okay, I decided to dive right in.......(it is a beach scene after all, right?) I am going to take part once again in Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge. I tried the last time - but it was while I was working on some more involved gallery pieces and I only managed to make it to about 20. So - I'm giving it another try, and let's see if I can do any better this time! I have an awful lot of work to do in the next month, so hopefully the challenge will keep me focuses. We will see!

Anyways, this is a little beach scene on a tiny canvas - a great little piece to put on a stand or a mini easel right on your desk so you can take a little vacation in your mind whenever you want to.....

Day #10 - Hard to Find a Friend - Small Still Life Painting

#10 of 30 - Hard to Find a Friend
3 x 4 inches
acrylic on 3/8" canvas

The last of the marbles for now, so I had to do a triple! This one got a little complex.
The marbles have been a lot of fun to paint, so I'm sure I will be re-visiting them as a subject at some point.

The whole little grouping of marble paintings will be going to MixtMedia Gallery in Ipswich, MA at the end of the month for the "Reflections" show. Now to start some slightly larger pieces for that show....

Day 9 - Other Worlds - Small Still Life Painting of Marbles

Day 9/30 - Other Worlds
3 x 4 inches
acrylic on 3/8" canvas

Still sticking with it at Day 9! I hope to focus a little better - I really need to get a little ahead since I need to work on some larger pieces for upcoming exhibitions - all due by the end of the month! I'm not sure why my brain is wandering so much - I was hoping that working in little series would help  keep me focused, but I'm finding it tough. At least the 30 Daily Challenge is making me get things finished and posted. Now if it could also add a few hours to the day......

Day 8 - Heart of Glass - Small Still Life Painting with Marbles

Day 8/30 - Heart of Glass
3 x 4 inches
acrylic on 3/8" canvas

Yes, I know  - "Heart of Glass" like the Blondie song....I couldn't get it out of my head the whole time I was painting this one!

My son is not happy that I "borrowed" the marbles he got for Christmas! I'm hoping to squeeze in two more of these little paintings before he takes them back. My kids always know when I start eyeing one of their toys (or some of their candy  ;-) that I've got an idea for a painting in my head.......

Day 7/30 - The Big Blue - Small Still Life Painting

The Big Blue
3 x 4 inches
acrylic on canvas

Marbles! I've wanted to paint glass marbles for a while - and when I heard the theme for the next show at MixtMedia Gallery is "Reflections" I thought it would be the perfect opportunity! I was considering doing a long vertical painting with marbles, but I decided to do these little ones to practice first - and now I'm thinking I may do 3 or 4 of these to hang together instead.

The marbles are so interesting to paint. You get all caught up in the abstract shapes and swirls - and then it starts all coming together and actually ends up looking like a marble! The blue marble in this painting keeps making me think of a snow globe.....

But A Memory - Small Acrylic Floral Painting

#4 - But A Memory
3 x 4 inches
acrylic on canvas

Day #4 of the 30 Day Challenge......
This challenge has truly helped me focus a bit better. My concentration seems to be slipping lately......my mind has been wandering and I am finding it hard to stay focused on the piece I am working on. The Challenge is adding a little push to help me at least complete each little work and to get it posted before the day is over. I am getting really nervous about the larger pieces I need to do for later in the month though. I could keep with the minis indefinitely, but I have some exhibitions to prepare for.

The theme for the first show I need to work on is "Reflections". I have some ideas, but nothing is screaming "PAINT ME"! I think I may play with a few small pieces with bits of my ideas to see if they spark anything. I plan to take the theme literally - I love working with glass, mirrors, water, etc, so I am thinking of a few still lifes along that line.

Hopefully I will be able to keep the posts up over the weekend - finding weekend time to paint with the boys all home is often a challenge. I will keep checking on Leslie Saeta's blog to see how everyone is keeping up!

But A Memory will soon be available at West Village Provisions in West Boxford, MA.

Sunny Side Up - Small Acrylic Sunflower Painting

#3 - Sunny Side Up
3 x 4 inches
acrylic on canvas

Day Number 3 of the 30 Day Challenge.
Detecting a theme yet?
Well, at least for a few days!
I need some small pieces to take to West Village Provisions - I can take these there AND these are actually studies for some larger pieces I would like to do. I would love to be doing these floral pieces REALLY large, however I am not quite set up for that at this point. But I will be doing a few of them as 8 x 10 or 12 x 12 at some point.

I am having fun with these little 3 x 4 inch canvases. They are thinner than my normal canvases (these are around 3/8" instead of 3/4") - hence the lower prices I am charging for them. They do look really cute hung together, or on mini easels, so I am going to work through this bunch of them that I have. I think they will work well for upcoming shows as well. I am starting to get nervous about some of the larger pieces I need to get done this month, so I think in the next few days I will just have to close my eyes and jump on in....

Angel Wings - Small Acrylic Floral Painting

#2 Angel Wings

Day #2!
The petals of this lily just made me think of wings, hence the title.

Still trying to catch up on paper work around here, but as part of my summary of 2012, I can tell you that I completed 167 paintings during the year! I can't wait to see what 2013 brings.....

Angel Wings will be available for a few days on my blog, then it will be going to West Village Provisions in West Boxford, MA until the end of February.

Love Letters - Small Floral Painting of Rose

#1 - Love Letters
3 x 4 inches
acrylic on 3/8" canvas

The first painting for the first day of the year!
I am participating in Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge, so this is painting number one for me. I guess the challenge doesn't formally start until tomorrow, but hey - I'm ready!

I hope to use this challenge to help build up my inventory of little works and ACEOs. The holiday shows pretty much cleared me out of most of the little ones and I want to have more to put on Etsy and for upcoming shows. I also need to complete a few larger works this month for some upcoming exhibitions, so I guess my keyword for this month with be BALANCE. Let's see how it goes  ;-)

This 3 x 4 inch painting will be offered for a few days on my blog, and then it will be available at West Village Provisions in West Boxford, MA until the end of February.

A bunch of ornaments, and a few of these little canvases, too.....The show is the Artisans in the Open show at the Unitarian Church in Newburyport, MA. Steady Gaze - Tiny Nutcracker Holiday Painting SOLD

Steady Gaze
3 x 4 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

This is another one of those little canvases that are thinner than my normal 3/4" deep canvases. This one is about 3/8" deep - and fits great on one of those tiny little wood easels. I am offering these for a lower price than my normal 3x4's because of the depth - so stock up now to add to your holiday decor! (Or a cute little gift, too  ;-)

Tree Trimming - Small Holiday Still Life SOLD

Tree Trimming
3x4 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

I seem to be getting in the holiday mood a bit, maybe?!

Actually, with all the holiday shows and shops I am in this year, it seems that holiday-themed stuff is in high demand right now. This little piece went to West Village Provisions as part of my display for the Winter Festival which was this weekend.

These little canvases are thinner than my normal 3x4 inch canvases - a little less than 1/2" deep, instead of the normal 3/4" - so I have decided to use some of them for little holiday paintings that can be displayed on mini easels. I plan to paint some more of these, along with a bunch of ornaments for my next holiday show. The ornaments have been selling in local shops about as fast as I can paint them, so I haven't even been posting them on my blog. I will post some this week - available here until my next show, so stay tuned!

Little Firecracker - Small Painting of Bright Orange Flower

Little Firecracker
4x3 inches
acrylic on canvas

So this is where I say something about "the explosive new painting", right?!
(Sorry, I couldn't resist!) I kept thinking of fireworks while I was painting this and the name "Firecracker" just stuck in my head, so there you go. It's funny how some paintings just name themselves, while others I struggle over. When I am stuck, I find I get my best ideas in the shower  ;-)

Available at West Village Provisions later this week.

Nestled
3x4 inches

SOLD

This painting is another small one that I completed in Maine. It will be available at West Village Provisions in West Boxford, MA through September.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Wenham Family Festival and Fair. It was a lot of fun! I am now trying to get all my paintings organized as I begin a really busy show and fair season. I also have a bunch of work that has come back from various shows and is now available - I will be posting the paintings as I can.

A Little Tipsy - Mini Vegetable Still Life Painting SOLD

A Little Tipsy
3x4 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

Another little still life to go in the grouping of fruits and vegetables. I'm enjoying seeing how all the colors work together. The background colors really make a big impact on how the subject looks - I am doing a lot of experimenting!

Still incredibly HOT here! I found it really hard to concentrate on painting - or anything else - today. Let's hope the heat breaks tomorrow, or I may just be a melted puddle by the end of the week!

"A Little Tipsy" will be joining a bunch of other fruit and vegetable still lifes at West Village Provisions, West Boxford, MA through late August.
