Farnhams Famous Clams - Small Acrylic Painting of Iconic Clam Shack

JT Farnhams
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on cradled panel
SOLD

Another iconic clam shack on the North Shore of Massachusetts. This one is in Essex - home to a lot of clams! I've driven by many times, however, this is one clam shack I haven't actually eaten at yet. Maybe next summer!

This piece was available at Pop Gallery in Gloucester, Massachusetts, but sold very quickly. I am guessing that there will be more Farnham's paintings coming up soon since it is a favorite place of many people. Let me know if you are interested in a piece of Cape Ann summer for your own!

Haverhill Music - Local Landscape Cityscape Painting

Haverhill Music
6 x 5 inches
acrylic on board

The holiday crazies seem to have begun!
I'm crazy busy (and already feeling  behind!) but all kinds of fun stuff coming up. I can't believe the big Wenham fair is just over a week away! More details soon.

This painting is one more local scene -unfortunately this business closed earlier this year.  I will be taking this piece with a small grouping of Haverhill paintings to Positive Images Gallery on Wingate Street in Haverhill at the end of the week.

And last call on commissions before the holidays. Two more days (or when I fill these last two slots - which ever comes first!) .....Friday, November 15th, 2013 will be the absolute last day I accept new commissions for this holiday season.

Happy New Year!!

Beach Day
(I had to post this one on a snowy day in New England!)
6-1/8 x 5 inches
acrylic on 1/2" hardboard
$100 includes free shipping in the US
(please contact me for international shipping charges)

Hard to believe that it is 2013 already (or will be in a few hours!)

I took a bit of a break from painting while we traveled with the kids for the holidays. It was wonderful to go home for Christmas (first time in over 20 years!) and spend some down time with my family. But now it is time to gear up and get back to work!

This weekend I spent some time cleaning up from all my holiday shows, and inventorying supplies and unsold paintings. I still need to sit down and write my goals for the New Year - and update my business plan. I accomplished many of my goals for 2012 and hope to continue the momentum into 2013.

To start things off on the right foot, I decided to participate in Leslie Saeta's "Thirty Paintings Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge". Eeekk! I was hesitant because I know I need to complete a few larger pieces this month, but I decided to give it a go anyways. We shall see how long I can keep up!

Anyways, I want to thank you all for sticking with me this year. I truly appreciate all my followers, collectors and friends out there - my most heartfelt thanks to you all. And a sincere wish for a most Happy, Healthy and Peaceful  New Year.

Change in Flight - Small Painting of Autumn Leaf

Change in Flight
5 x 6.125 inches
acrylic on board

One last painting to go to the "Transitions" exhibition at MiXtMedia Gallery, opening this Friday night. I felt like the oak leaf and the shadow looked like wings ready for flight.  The reception for the show is Friday, October 5th from 6 to 8pm. Their receptions are always a great group of people and a lot of fun. Hope to see you there!

Here is the ad for the show:

Recognize that painting on the upper right?!

Beginning of Change - Small Painting Autumn Leaf

Beginning of Change
5 x 6.125 inches
acrylic on board

Every year around this time I always want to paint the first autumn leaves that I see. That first hint of color, the wrinkles and shapes. Add the shadows from the morning light - and - inspiration!

This little guy is heading over to  MiXtMedia Gallery in Ipswich for the upcoming show "Transitions". More info to come.

And to everyone who came out to the opening of my featured exhibit "A Sense of Place" - thank you!!! It was a fun evening - I am so grateful to those of you who attended, and all the well wishes I received from those who could not. I hope to post some pictures soon....

Summer Classic - Small Painting of Local Scenes, Summer, Ipswich

Summer Classic
6.125 x 5 inches
acrylic on board

Back to the Clam Box in Ipswich!
I really am enjoying painting all these signs and buildings. And there will be a bunch more as I will be the featured artist at Sage Art Gallery at the end of September - and the theme will  be having to do with local signs and buildings (still deciding on a name!).

The grouping I did of buildings in Ipswich for MiXtMedia Gallery has been popular, so  now I am doing a few more to replace the ones that have sold over the last two months. "Summer Classic" is now available at MiXtMedia.

I hope every one has a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
I plan to spend some family time - maybe some fun adventures with the boys before school starts again next week....

Main Street - Cityscape Painting

Main Street
6.125 x 5 inches
acrylic on board

Love painting doorways...the angles and colors and shadows provide interesting shapes. This one was great fun to paint! This is a scene from Main Street in Gloucester - and the painting will be heading to Pop Gallery at the end of this week with the other scenes from the North Shore.

Happy Independence Day!

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Fourth of July!
I am away from the studio for the week, spending time with family in the midwest. The boys are getting lots of good time to spend with cousins and lots of fun outdoors.

I am getting a little bit of painting done on some small pieces - I don't want to fall TOO far behind - but may not be able to post any of the new pieces until I get back. Over the next few days, I plan to post a few older works that were in shows or exhibitions, but I now have them back in the studio and available for sale.

5 x 6.25 inches

The other boot painting sold at a local gallery last month, but this one is now available. These paintings are on some wonderful MDO board - the edges painted black, with D-ring on the back, so they can hang as is (or else it could be framed).

U-Rent-It - Another Ipswich Sign Painting SOLD

U-Rent-It
5.5 x 6.625 inches
acrylic on board
SOLD

This sign had all kinds of peeling paint! I really liked the various angles on this when I cropped the composition really closely. This piece, and all the other signs of Ipswich, will go to MiXtMedia Gallery on Saturday. I have sketched out a few more paintings for this series, but I have run out of time. I probably will still do them some time this summer - and maybe add them to the show at a later date.

I'm keeping up the crazy schedule for at least a few more weeks. The reception for the Regional Juried Show at Newburyport Art Association is this Sunday - 3-5pm, so please check it out if you are local, it is a great show!

I hope to have some exciting news to share about a new gallery next month. And I'm also going to be participating in a Pop-Up Shop for Creative Haverhill on June 2nd. More details to come.....

Motel 3 - New Sign Painting SOLD

Motel 3
6.25 x 5 inches
acrylic on board
SOLD

Here is one more motel sign from Ipswich. Different angle, adding more of the surroundings. I like the lines and shapes that the power lines and pole created so I decided to include them in this one. This painting will be on exhibit later this month at MiXtMedia Gallery.

More signs to come.....

Motel 2 SOLD

Motel 2
5.5 x 6.625 inches
acrylic on board
SOLD

Another painting of an old motel sign for the "Ipswich Thru The Artist's Eye" exhibition. I'm painting these on wonderful MDO boards that I got from my awesome brother-in-law for Christmas. He cut two boxes full of panels for me - best gift EVER! MDO is frequently used for outdoor signs, so I thought it would be an appropriate surface for this series.

It has been a crazy, busy week. Lots of appointments, and activities for the kids, but on Wednesday I got to attend a demo at the Concord Art Association by fellow blogger Kara Bigda - one of my favorite watercolor artists. It was great to see her - and her work - in person, plus I learned quite a bit.

Next I'm starting on one more motel sign, then I will probably move on to a different sign after that. Stay tuned!

Motel 1 - New Painting SOLD

Motel 1
6-5/8 x 5-1/2"
Acrylic on board
SOLD

Still not sure about the title for this one!
Anyways, the theme for the upcoming show at MiXtMedia Gallery is "Ipswich Thru the Artist's Eye". Ipswich has many wonderful natural resources - I'm sure the gorgeous beaches and marshes will be well represented at the show. I decided to concentrate more on architecture - and I got a little stuck on the idea of working with signs. I love older signs - the lettering, the colors, especially ones with neon. Not exactly what most people equate with Ipswich - but still things that the locals will recognize. By taking just pieces of them, I am almost abstracting them, concentrating on the shapes and textures, as opposed to the words themselves. The images are local, yet in some ways universal - this could from any motel of that era - little bits of America quickly disappearing. I found out after I had already decided on using this sign for some of my images that this particular motel has been sold, and the land will probably be redeveloped.

I will  probably do each one of my subjects a few times, from different angles, with different crops. I do plan on doing some paintings based purely on  Ipswich's architecture, but I don't think I will have them in time for this show. For now, it will be about the signs of Ipswich!

Take a Walk in My Shoes

Take a Walk in My Shoes
5 x 6.25 inches
acrylic on board
reserved

My boots felt like they deserved equal time with my husbands'! These boots have seen many, many miles - I am definitely more a "boot" than "shoe" person and I have worn these practically every day since I bought them about 13 years ago. Alas, I am sad to say that they are no more....the sole finally totally separated from the boot and no amount of shoe goo and duct tape could repair the damage. I did get a new pair of boots for Christmas - once they develop a little character with age, maybe they will warrant a painting of their own.....

(I HAD to use this title - I've had The Wreckers song "Stand Still, Look Pretty" in my head practically the whole time I worked this!)

Old Friends - SOLD

Old Friends
6-1/8 x 5 inches
acrylic on board
SOLD

These are my husband's boots - you know the kind - they wait by the door, ready for chopping wood, shoveling snow, raking leaves, digging dirt, anything wet or dirty. Not very pretty, but definitely practical....
