Caffe Sicilia - Small Acrylic Painting of a Local Cafe Gloucester, Massachusetts

Caffe Sicilia
(Gloucester, Massachusetts)
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on cradled panel
available at Pop Gallery

This charming little cafe is across the street from one of the galleries that carries my work. Pop Gallery is an awesome boutique right on Main Street in downtown Gloucester. It has evolved from a mostly art pop-up shop into a charming and quirky shop with stuff you won't find elsewhere - really fun clothing and unique accessories including the work of some local artists. Anyways, I thought it would be fun to paint a few of the downtown businesses that locals would recognize for Pop to include on their pink wall and I have always loved the shape of this little corner building.

Home Style - Small Urban Landscape Painting by Debbie Shirley

Home Style (One Way)
(Gloucester, Massachusetts)
8 x 8 inches
acrylic on canvas

What exactly would "Home Style" laundry be? Seems like a funny claim to fame! But anyways, I found myself fascinated by this building, sign and shadows each time I drove by, so I decided to paint it. A little different than my paintings that just highlight a part or a sign, but I am enjoying doing this kind of urban landscape - so there will be more!

George's - Small Acrylic Painting of Coffee House, Retro Sign

George's
7 x 5 inches
acrylic on cradled panel
available at Pop Gallery

Switching back and forth a bit with my posts since I still have a number of paintings left to catch up on.
This is part of the series of small paintings of local signs and buildings that are now available at Pop Gallery in Gloucester, Massachusetts. George's is a great little corner coffee shop in Gloucester. Soon after I took the picture for this painting, they replaced their sign. The new on ehas a lot less character - I am glad that I was able to capture the old one!

Supreme - Small Acrylic Painting of a Diner, Gloucester

Supreme
8 x 6 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Love the retro diners! I need to find some more of them to paint. This one is in the heart of downtown Gloucester - seems to be more of a pizza/roast beef joint than a true diner, but it still has the look!

I have spent some time updating my website today. It is getting closer to the look I want for it - but it is still a work in progress. Check it out at www.DebbieShirley.com and let me know what you think!

This painting is now available at Pop Gallery in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Main Street - Cityscape Painting

Main Street
6.125 x 5 inches
acrylic on board

Love painting doorways...the angles and colors and shadows provide interesting shapes. This one was great fun to paint! This is a scene from Main Street in Gloucester - and the painting will be heading to Pop Gallery at the end of this week with the other scenes from the North Shore.

Finally Back! (And a little Beach Painting....)

Beach Day
6.125 x 5 inches
acrylic on board

Back from the wilds of Northern Maine......nice to have electricity and plumbing again, but I already miss the quiet of the woods. We have been building a camp for years - but this was the first  year we were able to stay in it. It is still under construction - but finished enough we could "camp out" under a roof. Lots of hiking, time spent in lakes and rivers, wonderful family time. It was hard to come home!

I've had to hit the ground running....the Art and Craft Fair at the Wenham Museum is this Saturday (10 to 3 if you are local) - and I have a lot to prepare for it. All kinds of new gallery shows too in the next month, plus the Topsfield Fair - and a featured artist spot at a local gallery - more info to come.....

Meanwhile, I finished a few small paintings while up north. I found the lighting on our porch to be pretty wonderful most of the day. This painting will be going to Pop Gallery in Gloucester at the end of this week.

Cameron's - North Shore Cityscape, Gloucester Restaurant SOLD

Cameron's
8 x 4.5 inches
acrylic on board
SOLD

Another "Scene from the North Shore" for Pop Gallery. I found an old menu online that declares it "Where the Natives Dine". But no more - I think it went out of business last year. I liked the angles and the shadows, so I had to give it a shot.....I may try another one from a different angle.
