Left Behind - Floral Still Life Painting

Left Behind
8 x 8 inches
acrylic on canvas

I had this one in my head for a while and sketched from a set up I did a few months ago. I needed another 8 x 8" piece for the "Eight Cubed" exhibition at the Newburyport Art Association, so I thought I'd give it a go. I kept going back and forth on the painting and was very, very close to sanding and gessoing the canvas and starting again, but at one point the flower started to come together. Still not quite what I had in my head, but I think it is as far as I'm going to get at this time.

Can I say I really love doing 8 x 8 inch paintings? Such a great size!

The "Eight Cubed" exhibition runs from August 8-24 at the Newburyport Art Association in Newburyport, Massachusetts. The reception will be August 16, 6-8pm. This show was very popular last year - I am looking forward to seeing what this year will bring.

Bo Pro - Painting of Neon Sign, Retro Cityscape Art, Original Acrylic Painting

Bo Pro
11 x 14 inches
acrylic on 1-1/2" canvas

Another piece about ready to go for the "Along the Way" exhibition at the Boxford Library. This is of the sign at the Sunnyside Bowling Alley in Danvers, Massachusetts. I'm always happy to find a new-to-me neon sign to paint, so you can expect there will be more paintings from this sign in the future!

Hot Stuff - Small Acrylic Painting Kitchen Art Still Life of Peppers

Hot Stuff
8 x 8 inches
acrylic on canvas

While still working on my "retro roadside" sign paintings for the Boxford Library exhibit, I am also sneaking in two 8 x 8 paintings for the Newburyport Art Association's "Eight Cubed" exhibition. I painted a pile of red and green jalapeno peppers as a commission a few months ago and had such fun with them that I decided to revisit them slightly larger for this show. The show runs from August 8-24, 2014, with a reception on August 16th from 6-8pm at the Newburyport Art Association in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

Hilltop - Painting of Neon Sign, Retro Sign Art

Hilltop
10 x 8 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Similar in composition to a smaller square painting I did a few weeks ago, this painting will be shown in my upcoming exhibition at the Boxford Library. The exhibition is titled "Along the Way: Scenes from the North Shore" and will include about a dozen of my recent "retro roadside" and local scene paintings. More details to come, but it will be hung August 7th and remain up for about 6 weeks. I hope you can check it out if you are local - and I hope to do a little something online for those of you who are not.....

Soda & Cigars - Painting of Vintage Neon Sign Fowles Diner Newburyport, Massachusetts

Soda & Cigars
8 x 8 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Working on some pieces for my upcoming solo exhibition at the Boxford Library. The exhibition is going to be pieces from my "retro roadside" series, with a few additional pieces of buildings in town. More details to come soon!

This sign is in downtown Newburyport, Massachusetts. Fowles was a diner and newsstand - and the sign dates back to the early 1900's. While the old Fowles has been taken over for a new restaurant with a different name, the new owner has kept the historic sign out front as a nod to the location's history.

On A Roll - Small Acrylic Still Life Painting, Kitchen Art

On a Roll
4 x 4 inches
acrylic on cradled panel

We went through a ton of the little clementine and mandarin oranges when they were in season! While I kind of miss them (especially today when I have a cold  ;-), I am SO happy to see all the local fruits and vegetables getting ready. It is nearing the end of strawberry season here - and they have been wonderfully sweet. I hope to paint some before they are done, but they keep getting eaten too quickly at my house so I haven't gotten a chance!

This piece will be joining a few other pieces of kitchen art at Zenobia in Ipswich, Massachusetts later this week.

Hole in One - Small Acrylic Still Life Painting, Kitchen Art

Hole in One
4 x 4  inches
acrylic on cradled panel

Another new piece of kitchen art. The pepper is in one of my favorite vintage bowls. The little bowl is kind of a mustardy yellow and has subtle ridges going around it. It is not Fiestaware, but is probably of the same era.

This painting will be heading to Zenobia in Ipswich, Massachusetts later this week. A few of these little guys to finish up so I can get back to my signs & buildings!
