Blue Door - ACEO Painting Cityscape Landscape Haverhill, Massachusetts

Blue Door
3-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

This is another little ACEO painting of a storefront in downtown Haverhill, Massachusetts. I have just found out that the building recently sold and will be developed into retail on the ground floor and living space above including (rumor has it) possibly live/work artist spaces. All kinds of exciting things are happening in Haverhill these days!

This little painting will be available matted and framed at Positive Images Gallery on Wingate Street in Haverhill nest week. There are some things that I like about this composition, so I think I may be exploring it in a larger version soon.

Shoe City - Small Landscape Cityscape Acrylic Painting Haverhill ACEO

Shoe City
2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

This is a little scene from Haverhill, Massachusetts - a little red and brick building that houses Shoe City Hardware. Haverhill is known as "Shoe City" because of the shoe making industry that was prevalent in the area until the mid 1900's.

I have done a number of small paintings from Haverhill (as well as other Massachusetts towns) - and you will be seeing some more in the future as requested by some of my local galleries. Right now I am doing a few ACEO-sized ones that will be available matted and framed at Positive Images Gallery on Wingate Street in Haverhill. Some of the compositions that I particularly like will be then redone as larger pieces. I have some shows coming up, as well as some display space at my  new studio in Haverhill. I will be sharing more information about the studio in the upcoming months as we make some plans and things get settled in.....

The Crack-Up - Small Acrylic ACEO Painting Easter Egg

The Crack-Up
3-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

My kids were going through a box of old wind-up toys, and this silly little egg caught my eye. Watching it "walk" across the floor just totally cracked me up (no pun intended  ;-).

After I mat and frame him, he will be going to West Village Provisions in West Boxford, Massachusetts later this week.

In Conversation - Small Still Life Painting Kitchen Art

In Conversation
6 x 4 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

Yes, I haven't added to this series in a while......I hope to get around to it soon before show season starts. This painting is for a client who is making a grouping of these for her kitchen and wanted another pepper painting.

I got a sweet email today from the person who purchased my contribution to the #twitterartexhibit in Orlando this weekend. So glad that my little painting was able to help raise money for such a worthy cause!

Over and Over Again - Small Still Life Painting of Vintage Game Board

Over and Over Again
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

It's time for a little Parcheesi! I still like that game. Unfortunately it is not a favorite with my kids. I love the game board though. It makes me feel a tad Mondrian-ish.

This piece will be heading to MixtMedia Gallery in Ipswich, Massachusetts for their "Spaces and Edges" show.

And a little teaser....this is the first painting that I completed in my new studio space! More information to come.....

For You Blue - Small Acrylic Painting Still Life Kitchen Art

For You Blue
4 x 4 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

More fun with complimentary colors  ;-)
I've been painting these around the edges of the panel, too. I will have to get the camera out to take a picture to show how they look.

There is something really satisfying about painting these little guys. The panels give a very different look than the 3x3 canvases did. I wonder if I should try some of these REALLY large? I  might have to work up to it though  ;-)

Out on the Town - Small Still Life Painting for Kitchen Decor

Out on the Town
4 x 4 inches
acrylic on cradled board

Back to some little still lifes, inspired by my FunADay Project at the beginning of this year. Some of my galleries have requested these little guys, in addition to more of the vintage game paintings, so you will see me going back and forth between these two themes for a while!

For some reason, my reds don't really scan well. There is a lot more depth to the colors on the apples than you can see in this picture. I really build the layers when I paint fruit. It always seems like it isn't going to work, but eventually as I keep adding layers, it eventually seems to come together with a lot of depth because of all the layers of color.

Sugar Rush - Small Acrylic Painting Classic Game Still Life

"Sugar Rush"
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Candy Land! I remember loving it as a kid. Funny how it wasn't quite as much fun playing it with  my kids  ;-) Maybe it is because of the way little children just want to play the same game over and over again.....

This is from a vintage game board - circa maybe early 70's? It is just how I remember it, but different from the game today. The graphics on the modern game aren't nearly as wonderful. And can you believe they renamed "Molasses Swamp" to "Chocolate Swamp"?!!

This painting, along with the last five vintage and classic game and toy paintings will be going to Pop Gallery in Gloucester, Massachusetts tomorrow. Be sure to stop by if you are in the area!

Stepping Out - Small Acrylic Painting Still Life of Vintage Board Game

Stepping Out
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Back to Monopoly. I really like painting the shoe token, but I guess I will have to give some of the others a try as well. Maybe the iron next?

Painting fast and furious this week - some deadlines got moved up and I will have to do my best to roll with it. I hope to share some new and exciting studio news soon as well....stay tuned!
