Baby Blues - Small Still Life of Blueberries, Kitchen Art

Baby Blues
4x6 inches
acrylic on canvas

These tiny Maine blueberries were my kids absolutely favorite thing that we brought home from the Middleton Farmers Market a few weeks ago. I think they chanted "pancakes, pancakes" the whole way home. They certainly didn't last for long - and made us all look forward to our trip to Maine later this summer when we will get to pick our own!

Baby Blues will be at West Village Provisions, West Boxford, Massachusetts through late August.

Bunch of Beans - Small Still Life Vegetable Painting SOLD

Bunch of Beans
5x3 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

Who knew that beans would actually be fun to paint! Really makes me eager for my next trip to the Farmers Market. I hate when I run out of vegetables and have to buy some at the grocery store this time of year.

This little guy will be ganging up with other fruits and vegetables at West Village Provisions, West Boxford, MA through late August.

Wax Beans - Mini Still Life Kitchen Art

Wax Beans
3x5 inches
acrylic on canvas

One of my favorite things from the Farmers Market! The wimpy green beans in the grocery store can never compare to fresh yellow wax beans.

This little still life will be at West Village Provisions in West Boxford, Massachusetts through late August.

Cameron's - North Shore Cityscape, Gloucester Restaurant SOLD

Cameron's
8 x 4.5 inches
acrylic on board
SOLD

Another "Scene from the North Shore" for Pop Gallery. I found an old menu online that declares it "Where the Natives Dine". But no more - I think it went out of business last year. I liked the angles and the shadows, so I had to give it a shot.....I may try another one from a different angle.

Pat's Diner - Small Landscape Painting Salisbury, MA

Pat's Diner
6x6 inches
acrylic on board

This is a classic little diner in Salisbury, Massachusetts. I am currently working on a small series of Scenes from the North Shore for Pop Gallery. So many interesting places that I want to paint! While I will need to narrow it down to just a few to complete over the next two weeks, I suspect it will be a series that I return to frequently. People seem to connect with these little paintings....even if they have never been to the specific spot, it always seems to remind them of somewhere they have been. I am enjoying hearing from people about these spots or the memories they conjure.

This little piece will be available at Pop Gallery for the month of August.

First Blush - Small Still Life Pear Painting SOLD

First Blush
4x3 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

This is last in the little grouping of fruits and vegetables that I took to West Village Provisions on Saturday.

Here is how the last four look together (on my easel):

First Blush, the four paintings above, and two other veggies I had completed earlier went to West Village Provisions on Friday. By Saturday, three of them had sold! I think there may be some more produce in my near future.....

Summer Gathering - Small Still Life Painting, Kitchen Art SOLD

Summer Gathering
4x4 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

Adding this one to the group that will go to West Village Provisions tomorrow. I think this is going to be a fun little grouping! I feel like I could keep going with the fruits and vegetables (so much produce, so little time!), but I think I am going to try to finish up one last one that is on my easel and then move on to some other pieces I need to get done.

Summer Gathering will be at West Village Provisions, West Boxford, MA through late August.

A Little Tipsy - Mini Vegetable Still Life Painting SOLD

A Little Tipsy
3x4 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

Another little still life to go in the grouping of fruits and vegetables. I'm enjoying seeing how all the colors work together. The background colors really make a big impact on how the subject looks - I am doing a lot of experimenting!

Still incredibly HOT here! I found it really hard to concentrate on painting - or anything else - today. Let's hope the heat breaks tomorrow, or I may just be a melted puddle by the end of the week!

"A Little Tipsy" will be joining a bunch of other fruit and vegetable still lifes at West Village Provisions, West Boxford, MA through late August.

His & Hers - Small Still Life Fruit Painting with Apples SOLD

His & Hers
3x5 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

Now up..... a little series of fruit and vegetables on tiny canvases. Inspiration from the Farmers Market! I plan to do a bunch of these bright little canvases to hang together at West Village Provisions until the end of next month.

I love painting apples. They have so many colors in them - it is always interesting to see the form evolve as I add more and more layers of color. Every time I start painting one, I think "this one is never going to work!" Yet eventually, an apple emerges each time! Amazing stuff, this paint is  ;-)

This piece will join "Local Berries" and a few others in West Boxford, MA at West Village Provisions until late August.

Authorized Parking Only - Painting of Building Architecture

Authorized Parking Only
10 x 8 inches
acrylic on canvas

This is an old, largely empty building in Haverhill, MA. It wasn't quite the direction I had planned on going with it when I started, but it kinda took on a life of its own! I like working with old buildings, the more run down, the better. This one was a little plain, but I liked some of the shapes and angles, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Because of some upcoming projects, there are going to be some more building paintings in the near future. I did a little walking around Haverhill today - some really great buildings to work with. Now I need to go back with my sketchbook and camera  ;-)

This painting will be at a new show at the Sage Gallery in Haverhill.More info to come.......

Empty Vessel - New Painting Farm Building Abandoned Silo

Empty Vessel
10x8 inches
acrylic on canvas

This painting is to be entered in a local exhibit. I hope to have more information about it to share with you soon.

I always find old farms intriguing (I wonder what this silo held?) - and a little sad - so many of the small local ones can no longer sustain themselves. I try to buy from local farms as much as I can - but in New England, winter can be a little tricky  ;-) I took the kids to the Middleton Farmers Market yesterday. We had so much fun picking out yummy things to eat that I totally forgot that I meant to get a few things specifically for a still life! Oh well - I guess there is always next week!

These 8x10s always feel big after working so small for so long. I am starting to get the urge to work a little bigger though. I don't really have to space to work any larger right now, but I am starting to think about how to work it out......

Leaning Pear - ACEO Still Life Kitchen Art

Leaning Pear
3.5 x 2.5 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

This is the first little ACEO painting that I did while we were in Ohio. I have found ACEOs to be the perfect project for traveling! The little watercolor cards don't take up much room, they fit nicely in my tiny PocketBox and they can be completed quickly. I brought some mini canvases with me this time, but I never even started one. The little containers I bring for paint in my little box are so tiny, they work really well with small brushes - so I didn't want to break out anything bigger than a size 2!
I have a larger plain pochade box that belonged to my Dad, that I am considering tinkering with a bit to take some larger supplies with me when we go camping in Maine in a few weeks, but we will have to see if I get around to it before then!

Leaning Pair is available at West Village Provisions in West Boxford, Massachusetts through the month of August.

Cherry Pair - ACEO Small Still Life Painting SOLD

Cherry Pair
2.5 x 3.5 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper
SOLD

The first of a few small ACEO-sized paintings from our family trip to Ohio.

We had a great week with family, a bit of relaxation and lots of fun for the kids. Took lots of pictures, especially on a scenic train ride we took in the Cuyahoga Valley. Not much painting time, but enough to keep me from going crazy from withdrawal  ;-)

I will be posting the new ACEOs over the next few days while I work on two larger paintings for a local exhibition.

Another little summery piece - I have sold a number of these small, kind of botanical little paintings - the wild blueberries seem to be especially popular! This one was on display locally, but I now have it back in the studio and available for sale:

Happy Independence Day!

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Fourth of July!
I am away from the studio for the week, spending time with family in the midwest. The boys are getting lots of good time to spend with cousins and lots of fun outdoors.

I am getting a little bit of painting done on some small pieces - I don't want to fall TOO far behind - but may not be able to post any of the new pieces until I get back. Over the next few days, I plan to post a few older works that were in shows or exhibitions, but I now have them back in the studio and available for sale.
Take a Walk in My Shoes
5 x 6.25 inches
acrylic on board
The other boot painting sold at a local gallery last month, but this one is now available. These paintings are on some wonderful MDO board - the edges painted black, with D-ring on the back, so they can hang as is (or else it could be framed).
