Pear in Blue Bowl SOLD

Okay, it is still a pear! But at least it is in a different setting - and a much smaller size. Last pear - really! Well, at least for now.....

Comfortable Silence - SOLD

SOLD

I think this will be the last of these pears in this series for a while!

I like the idea of taking two or three objects and looking at them in different arrangements or at different angles to explore their relationship to each other. I like working with food, because each piece is unique...and it is also free of some of the associations we might have with other kinds of objects. In this series I am leaving the backgrounds unpainted because I want the focus to be totally on the objects, their shapes, their shadows and the negative space around them. There will be more to come!

Encounter

So many colors in these brown pears....and they have such unique shapes. They really have been fun to work with. Two more to go, and then I think it will be time to take a rest from the pears!

Another Redesign?

Yes, I changed my blog design  AGAIN!

I really wanted to simplify the look a little bit. I also wanted to narrow the focus a little.
This will be more of a daily painting blog. My goal is at least three new works a week. I suppose two is more realistic, but I am aiming for three!

This year I really want to concentrate on discipline and on improving my skills. I believe this will be the best way....to concentrate on painting everyday (even when it can only be a little bit!) and getting back that discipline of getting to work each day and getting things done. It is hard with three young children to find the time, but I am finding ways. My kids are on school vacation this week, so it has been a good trial. I am getting better about posting my work when I am not worrying about writing too much about it. I think I will post collections and treasuries and features on my facebook page. I have an ArtFire blog, too where I can post about works and collections and challenges. I plan this blog to be focused on my paintings and special events. Let's see if I can keep this up!

Despite all the snow outside (and yes, it is snowing again!) I am thinking about spring. I look forward to the sense of hope and renewal it brings, as the snow melts and buds and leaves begin to emerge. This  is my entry for the Finding Fine Art Etsy Team February challenge.

Lean on Me - Original Painting - SOLD

It looks like I am going to be working on a series of pear paintings. I have a had a request to do a few more paintings to go together with my previously done painting "Indifference". I plan to do a few with the same kind of pears and then a few more with some other kinds. I am really enjoying the colors and shapes of the different pears. Here is the one I just finished:

Dreaming of Spring - Original Painting - SOLD

There is so much snow here in the Northeast, it seems like spring might never come around!

I couldn't resist buying a little bouquet of flowers the other day when I was at Trader Joes. Plenty of spring inspiration to last me for a few more cold snowy days!!

On My Own - Original Acrylic Painting

Finished this little one Thursday night. It wasn't exactly as planned - I had seen it in my head as the flower being a little farther down and to the left, and the shadow being bigger and more onimous. But it didn't want to go that way! I may give it another shot at a later date, but there is still something I like about this one.....

I also discovered how wonderful spray varnish is when you are working with as smooth a surface as gessobord. I have always used a brush-on varnish and have really been struggling with varnishing these pieces on gessobord. Gessobord is such a smooth surface, it is hard to get a smooth finish without brush marks. I decided to break down and buy a can of spray varnish, and wow - what a difference!

In the Heart 6x6 Original Painting

Finished this rose today - unfortunately, the scan isn't coming out so great - it isn't quite showing the depth of the colors or enough contrast. I will have to try to take some pictures when the outside light is better.

Anyways, last year I had a rose bush that was a few years old. I am not good at taking care of rose bushes and this one was slowly dying. There were a few blooms in June, but the bush was looking pretty sad. Out of nowhere, on a cold cloudy day in October, came this amazing perfect rose on the almost dead bush. I kept going out to look at it - it looked so perfect it did not seem real. And a rose in October? Anyways, I kept trying to take pictures of it, and I could not get the right exposure on my camera. No matter what I did, the background always looked white and cloudy and overexposed. And the rose just looked totally surreal. When I downloaded the pictures to my computer, I kept noticing how much the very center of the flower looked like a real heart. This was the inspiration for this painting.
