I've been painting these around the edges of the panel, too. I will have to get the camera out to take a picture to show how they look.
There is something really satisfying about painting these little guys. The panels give a very different look than the 3x3 canvases did. I wonder if I should try some of these REALLY large? I might have to work up to it though ;-)
