Finally Home!

Yes, we are finally back home!
I've been silent for the last week because we went on a family trip. We flew cross country to California.....visited Legoland....Joshua Tree National Park....the Grand Canyon....the Hoover Dam...ended in Las Vegas. Lots of driving, amazing scenery, and three very exhausted kids (and parents, too!).

Since I was not prepared enough to have some work ready ahead of time like many daily painters do, I haven't been able to post. You may get a few more photographs from our trip (like the one above) while I get back into the swing of things. Since it was a family trip, my paints stayed home - but I hope someday to revisit some of the same areas primarily to paint.

I am so overwhelmed by all the beauty we saw. The Grand Canyon was, of course, amazing. But I was truly stunned by the beauty of the Joshua Tree area. It is going to take my brain a while to process it all. I have a million different scenes that I want to paint, but I feel overwhelmed by trying to portray what I saw in a way that will do it justice. It may be a while before I feel ready to try.

I'm looking forward to getting back into the paint in some form tomorrow - a whole week without painting is torture! Thank you for your patience.

Welcome home! Sounds like you had a great trip and got to enjoy the ever-changing scenery that that part of the southwest has to offer.

Glad you made it to the Grand Canyon - my personal most favorite place to be on this planet :). Despite the fact that I've spent hundreds of hours hiking and backpacking there, and know it well, I've only painted it twice...

I also know the antsy feeling of wanting to get back in the studio after a trip all too well!

Debbie, welcome home my friend ;o) It sounds like you had an amazing trip! I truly hope to see some of the pictures! And, to see some new art ;o) I understand about not painting. I love going away, but when you love to paint, it's hard not doing it! Take Care!

Sounds like a most wonderful vacation. My father visited Arizona a couple of years ago and has since gone back to hike the Grand Canyon. We'll definitely visit someday, such gorgeous country. Can't wait to see what you paint, it's sure to be stunning. :)

Hi Debbie, welcome back! I love the beautiful photo of the Grand Canyon--I remember visiting many years ago and sitting on the edge & watching the sunset! One of the most moving experiences of my life. I'll look forward to your paintings!

Thanks for the welcome home!

Sonya - the southwest is truly amazing. That was my first trip there - and it won't be my last! My grandmother (an artist) spent a lot of time out there...I now see what she was drawn to.
