Fading Memory

This is for entry in an upcoming local exhibition where the theme is "Transformation"
I am planning on doing a small series based on the idea of aging, fading beauty, the changes we go through as we age, etc. My "models" are some flowers that are "past their prime". I always hold on to my flowers after they wilt and start to dry up - I find them more interesting, with a different energy. I hope this little series will celebrate the allure and intrigue gained with age, despite the loss of youthful and traditional beauty.
This is an idea I have wanted to work with for a while. I think I will only have a chance to complete a few paintings for the upcoming show, but I will definitely be revisiting the theme in the future!
This painting took longer than expected - I haven't been used to working 8x10 for a while (strange to think of that as being "big"!), but I've also had a sick little boy home since the weekend, so my painting time has been really fractured. I will probably take a break from the second one in this series tomorrow to do a quick little one for the DailyPaintworks.com weekly challenge. I think I need more hours in the day ;-)

This is a wonderful and interesting viewpoint. It reminds me a little of the great Georgia O'Keeffe's work and I mean that as a huge compliment.
I could pose for you as I am past my prime too!

I seem to be entering the "past the prime" stage, so I think that may be the cause of the introspection ;-)
