Star Light - Original Acrylic Floral Painting

Star Light
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on 1-1/2" gallery wrapped canvas

One  more in the "Wallflower Series" for Pop Gallery in Gloucester, Massachusetts. I think I will be doing one more this size, and then a larger one before I deliver this batch. And for those of you who expressed interest in some smaller ones, I plan to try to do a couple after I get a few things done for some shows coming up quickly.

In the meanwhile, a quick break from the flowers for a few still lifes - stay tuned!

Pocketful of Sunshine - Small Acrylic Floral Sunflower Painting

Pocketful of Sunshine
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on 1-1/2" gallery wrapped canvas

I always love the sunflowers! Today was gray with rain and snow, but the thought of sunflowers has me hopeful for warmer days ahead.....

A view on my easel:

I need to take a picture of these "Wall Flowers" together - so colorful and cheerful! A few more to go, and then they will go off to Pop Gallery in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

You'll Think of Me - Small Floral Still Life Painting

You'll Think of Me
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on 1-1/2" gallery wrapped canvas

Another flower on the boxy gallery wrapped canvases - really love the way they sit out from the wall. I think I will call these my "Wall Flower" series  ;-) They will be going to Pop Gallery in Gloucester, Massachusetts in a few weeks.

(from a slight angle on my easel)

I love irises - I so look forward to seeing them bloom each spring, definitely my favorites. I have a bunch of these purple Japanese irises in my yard that I transplanted from my Grandmother's garden more than twenty years ago and have moved with me twice. And my Grandmother had originally transplanted them from her mother-in-law's garden many, many years ago - so they have quite the history!

Painting time is scarce this week - the kids are out of school for February break, so these flowers are coming along more slowly than planned. I am also sitting here looking at a pile of show applications and exhibition prospectuses. Eeek! Time for me to go through them and make some commitments - always a scary thing for me to do. Anyways I will update my schedule soon with lots of exciting stuff coming up.....

Looking for You - New Small Floral Painting

Looking for You
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on 1-1/2" canvas

Finishing up another floral tonight on these wonderful 1-1/2" canvases. Love the way they pop from the wall - I hoping with some colorful florals they will be really eye-catching! Here is one on my easel so  you can see how thick they are:

This group of flowers will be going to Pop Gallery in Gloucester, Massachusetts in the next few weeks. Here's to hoping for an early spring......

Duchess - New Floral Painting Orange Flower

Duchess
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on 1-1/2" gallery wrapped canvas

The scan isn't quite as intense as the colors really are. I may have to try to photograph it tomorrow in daylight. And also take pictures to show the depth of the canvas. I am doing a little series of flowers on these deep gallery wrapped canvases. The painting goes around the edges of the canvas - and I wanted to do these extra deep so that they really "pop" out from the wall. I am going for a little bit of drama with these!

The series will be going to Pop Gallery in Gloucester, Massachusetts in a few weeks.

Two Shows....and an Award!

The opening for "Reflections" at MixtMedia Gallery in Ipswich, Massachusetts has been rescheduled (thanks to Nemo!) for this Friday, February 15, 2013. Don't you love the postcard? (I am so proud to have two images on it!) This looks like it is going to be a really great show - and the openings at MixtMedia are always a good time.

Also, BOTH of my paintings "Schwinn Bicyclery" AND "Arcade" were accepted into the Newburyport Art Association's Winter Member Juried show. And I am soooo thrilled to announce that "Schwinn Bicyclery"

Schwinn Bicyclery

won the Honorable Mention Award in Acrylics! You can read all the jurors comments here:

The opening reception for that show (also rescheduled due to Nemo) will be this Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 3-5pm at the Newburyport Art Association in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

I've got a busy weekend coming up!

A Sweet Heart - Original Valentine ACEO Painting Red Heart SOLD

A Sweet Heart
2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches
acrylic on 1/8" archival canvas panel
SOLD

I had to sneak a little one in for Valentine's Day!

I've been wanting to try something wrapped in cellophane - this is my first attempt. Very interesting surface to try to represent!

This ACEO is on a little handmade acid free canvas board with a WOOD core - no cardboard. The board is about 1/8" thick and wonderfully sturdy. Cool, huh? I may have to get some of these for my plein air work.

Because these little boards look so cute on the tiny wood easels, I'll even include one with your order!

Careful Cluster - Small Acrylic Still Life Painting of Grapes SOLD

"Careful Cluster"
5 x 3 inches
acrylic on 3/4" canvas
SOLD

Hunkering down here in the blizzard....awesome snow day for the kids - the storm didn't really get serious until evening. I'm just hoping we will keep power through the night - should be interesting to see what the world looks like in the daylight!

This painting is going to be grouped with the bottles from yesterday and the green grapes from a few weeks ago for West Village Provisions once the snow lets up.....stay safe everyone!

By the Bottle - Small Acrylic Still Life Painting on Canvas SOLD

By the Bottle
5 x 3 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

Hmmmm, somehow I must have known subconsciously that this was coming when I started this painting....but I'm going to need a few bottles of something tomorrow. Just got the official call of "snow day" and the three kids are dancing around like crazy.

This painting is part of a little grouping going to West Village Provisions tomorrow - well, I guess now it'll have to be Monday.  Wish me luck (and some patience!) for tomorrow.......

Down a Country Road - Small Landscape Painting ACEO SOLD

Down a Country Road
3-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper
SOLD

Another little ACEO landscape....daydreaming of warmer days....

It is fun to work small again! Now these I could have kept up with for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge;-)  ACEOs are always fun. I haven't done nearly as many of them as I used to - maybe it's time to add some more to inventory? We will see.

Can't believe I am already getting show applications for this summer and fall (and even a holiday one!). Time to work out my calendar - I hope to post any upcoming dates soon.

And speaking of dates - the opening reception for the "Reflections" show at MixtMedia Gallery in Ipswich this Friday, February 8th, from 6-8pm. Hope to see you there!

Onto a few little canvases.....they will be going  - along with  the landscapes - to West Village Provisions at the end of the week.

Arcade - Acrylic Painting of Neon Sign

Arcade
12 x 12 inches
acrylic on canvas

Another view of the neon sign at the Salem Willows Arcade in Salem, MA. It is a great sign - I've done a few other smaller paintings of it. This one is a whopping (for me!) 12 x 12 inches for the same juried show that I am entering "Schwinn Bicyclery".

I am soooo looking forward to doing some smaller pieces now. I hate that I fell behind in the 30 Day Challenge - but I knew going into this that I had some commitments that were going to require larger paintings. Still, I had hoped that I could keep up longer. The larger paintings made me realize that I will need to rethink my setup if I am going to do more larger work. I'd like to do a  mix, but I'm really going to have to think this one through.....

Now I plan to spend a few days happily doing some smaller work to refresh my displays locally,,,,then on to another series for the Gloucester gallery.....more to come!
