Ticket to Ride
6x6 inches
acrylic on canvas
Still putting the finishing touches on this one. This is for the upcoming Spring Show - together with the other 6x6 paintings I did with a carnival/amusement park theme ("Carousel Captive" and "Caterpillar Coaster").
In the summer we spend a lot of time going to old-fashioned fairs and carnivals with the kids. I am totally fascinated by the colors and the sounds, and also the graphics on the old rides and signage. Incredible color, yet rundown looking. Everything is brightly painted - even the ride controls and power cords seem to be a part of the color scheme. And some of the painted characters on the kiddie rides are truly creepy! Anyhow - I have many more ideas of things I what to paint on this same theme, so I'm sure there will be additions to this series in the future.

Excellent Debbie and you are so right in everything you said! Take Care!
Wow, this is great Debbie! The lettering is so real, that I feel like I'm there. Fabulous detail and the color combination and intensity is perfect. I also found this to be a fun theme when one of my groups had a circus challenge. In fact, I was just thinking about doing another clown ;)
Anyway, I love this piece. Excellent work! Kathryn
I love this one, it immediately makes me think of summer fun. Yes, you're right though, some carnival art is quite creepy, but in a wonderfully weird way!
I can almost smell the cotton candy! Fun painting!
Love the carnival atmosphere you are creating. Brings back many wonderful memories of childhood!
I've enjoyed exploring your blog. I really like your work! I'm looking forward to more fairs and carnivals. :-)
Thanks so much for the nice comments everyone!
These paintings will be going off to an exhibition tomorrow, but I am looking forward to adding to the series in the future!
